The body of an automobile is a complex and delicate piece of machinery, and requires careful inspection by technicians before it is put together in production. During the design stage, engineers work with the body’s shape and structure to determine the most economical and efficient way to build it.

Automotive bodies are manufactured from a variety of materials, including metals and composites. The most common material is aluminum, but steel and other metals are also commonly used. Plastics and other lightweight materials are often substituted for heavier steel or aluminum components in order to save weight and improve fuel economy.
